Showing off our #DisneySide

Last March our little guy turned a year and we celebrated his birthday with a bang. With lots of help from his aunt, uncles grama, grampa, nana, poppa and friends we pulled off this celebration. This year we are celebrating with a Cars theme. We can't wait to show off our #DisneySide once again.

Let's Boogie

Keeping my little guy clean is a pretty hard task. He loves oatmeal and yogurt and often gets his face pretty crusty with left overs from breakfast. Instead of rubbing his face to try to get the dried up oatmeal or yogurt off I love using boogie wipes. Here's his yogurt face:

Boogie Wipes are moist saline wipes that help take any dried up food, boogs or anything else that is crusty and dried onto your face. This moist wipe makes it easy to wipe off and when your little one is sick their noses get red and irritated when you continuously use a dry tissue, so before you get to that point I'd recommend using the boogie wipes and avoid irritating your little ones nose.

They are also very refreshing. On our summer trip to TX I would use the boogie wipe to wipe down my little guys face and help cool him down. I even used Boogie Wipes for this purpose and it felt so great and refreshing!

Boogie wipes come in three scents: unscented, fresh scent (my favorite) and a grape scent (usually older kids love the grape scent). The saline mist is a new product. Living in the dry desert we use saline spray very often to help moisten my little guys nose. It's especially helpful during allergy season.

Since then a new product called Puffs Fresh Faces has made its debut. Puffs Fresh Faces are patented and uniquely formulated with natural saline, aloe and vitamin E for all your face has to face each day. This is a saline wipe for adults. I use it to remove my makeup at the end of the day and right after my gym workout. It is so great to refresh your face. Saline is a natural way to help remove your makeup, wipe your nose, or freshen up after a workout or long day.

Puffs fresh faces also come in a variety of scents. I love the way the lavender smells, but my favorite is the fresh scent wipe. If you have a cold try the Vicks scented wipe. They also have an unscented wipe for those with delicate skin. I have delicate skin and my skin does fine with the unscented and fresh scent, I can't use the lavender scented wipe (although the smell is amazing). Of course the Vicks wipes are only for your nose. I keep a small pack of puffs fresh faces in my gym bag and use it to freshen up right after my workout.

Disney Side @ Home Celebration

A couple of weeks ago I received an awesome email informing me that I was chosen to host a Disney Side @ Home Celebration. I applied for this opportunity through a group called Moms Meet. Last week I received my official box from Walt Disney World Resorts & Park for hosting my Disney Side @ Home Celebration.

Inside was an awesome piece if luggage (which hubby took on his trip to North Carolina this week). American Tourister is the official luggage of Walt Disney World & Disneyland. We received the 20" At Skate luggage in black with red accents. I'm so happy that we received the black one so my hubby could use for his travel. He was very excited to have this for his trip.

When I opened up the suitcase we found tons of great Disney items!
Everything we'd need to celebrate our love for Disney!! In the words if my little guy "ooooo." Balloons, tattoos, cups, plates, napkins, Mickey cookie cutter, cupcake liners, craisins, decorations.
Plus games, face paint guide, measuring cups.
HP Photo paper, bracelets & Run Disney cheer cards, ESPN bumper stickers
A WDW vacation planning DVD, Muppets calendar and an awesome luggage tag.
And these amazingly beautiful poster prints. So cute!!

And now to start planning a way to celebrate all things Disney with some friends. Stay tuned for pictures of my event. I'm incorporating Cars into the celebration somehow since my little one is obsessed with Mater (aka Li) and Mc Queen (aka vroom vroom).

**Disclosure: I received free products in order to host the Disney Side @ Home Celebration. The opinions expressed here are my own."

No drive thru needed

Some days you just need a break. Today was a busy day and I really had no motivation to cook or mess up my kitchen, since it was spotless. So instead of eating out or making something unhealthy I cooked up some ground turkey, chopped up lettuce and tomato and avocado and voila, taco salad.

What is your favorite last minute meal idea? Breakfast for dinner is always a favorite at our house.

Doctors should know...right?

Since we recently moved I am looking for a doctor for myself and my little guy. I found a doctor very close by our new home and made our appointments, just in case my little guy gets sick. As the date of the appointment gets closer I'm really starting to have anxiety. One thing that I've learned about the medical community is that they're not very knowledgeable when it comes to breast feeding and dare I say the mother child bond. Well I'm only going to cover my thoughts about breast feeding today.

Several months ago I had mastitis but since I didn't have the normal symptoms it took almost two months to finally get antibiotics to treat my mastitis. Along the way I had to go in for two ultrasounds, a mammogram and several visits a with a breast specialist. The breast specialist encouraged me to wean, the ultrasound tech did the same, the lady who administered my MRI gave me wrong information regarding breast feeding after the mammogram. After I was finally given antibiotics the breast specialist told me that I needed to check with the pharmacist to see if what she prescribed was ok to take while breast feeding. Seriously? She didn't know if what she prescribed was ok for me and my baby. Pardon me but I think a breast specialist should know about breast feeding. Pharmacist gave me incorrect information too!! I am so thankful that I was part of a breast feeding support group at a hospital near my home and the lactation consultant was the one that looked up the medication and gave me the go ahead to take my meds.

I seriously believe that pediatricians, OB/GYN's and Breast Specialist should take the same classes that the lactation consultants take or maybe have a lactation consultant in their office!! It's no wonder so many moms feel the need to stop breast feeding with all of the misinformation out there.

So here I am a momma to an almost 2 year old going to see a new doctor. Part of me wants to just not even mention that I breast feed because I kind of already know how that will turn out.

The countdown begins, we'll see how our first appointment goes.

Target coupons via text

Text the word cheesy to the number 827438 for coupons including $1 off bounty paper towels and $1 off veggies ($1 or more) and $1 off fruit ($1 or more).

I purchased two packs of bounty paper towels for $16 each and used the $1 coupon sent to me via text from target. I was given a $5 gift card.
My hubby is very happy he loves having lots and lots of paper towels around.

With the $5 gift card from this purchase and some great coupons from Annie's and target text message I bought the items in the picture below for 50 cents total.
This is my first attempt at really trying to use coupons and I think it's a pretty great start.

Happy couponing :)!!

New room for the little guy

We've been in our new home a little over a month and I finally had some time to really figure out what I wanted in my little guys big boy room and what needed a new home. We got rid of his glider and changing mat, and a small storage container and settled on his room having his book tent, big boy Chair and his toy box. Also since he loves Disney's Cars we decided to go with that theme.

I made some picture holders with the help of my hubby. We had made some for his baby nursery and we loved the way they cover up an entire wall and hold pictures.

These photo holders are really easy to make and pretty inexpensive. I paid about $20 for all if the materials needed to make these.

Here are some pics I took along the way.
Foam board, material, ribbon, thumbtacks and a glue gun is all you need. We ran out of silver thumbtacks so I left the middle board alone.

Here are some more pictures of his room.

He loves it!! We already put some pictures on his picture holders and he loves waking up and seeing all his CARS buddies.

Is it time? Yes oh wait no

Daily I have an internal struggle, should we have a second child or not? If I were in Texas there'd be no question. But being away from family really adds another layer of difficulty. As I see hubby do well in his new position I see that many days of traveling are ahead of him and that's fine. It's actually getting easier for it to be just me and my little guy for 1,3 or 5 days. But adding another baby would bring on a whole new situation.

Part of me wishes that I hadn't waited so long to have my first baby I mean I'm already 34 so I only have a couple of years where being a new mom would make sense. However now that eating out, romantic vacations and date nights have been thrown out the window I'm so thankful that I did have 10 years and 9 months worth of memories of it just being the two of us. I can often find a great memory during one of our annual anniversary trips or an eventful night out with our family or friends especially on those evening when we are stuck at home and ready for bed at 8.

So here I am 48 hours of being home alone with my little guy and we are doing great and right now at 7:22 am on Jan 8 I feel like yes I'd be ok with adding another little one but I'm sure at some point today I will think there's no way I can handle that. I am thankful that God leaves it in my mind and heart daily because I really think I'm just working through my realities in order to know what I'm supposed to do. Oh and the only issue right now is that my little guy is laying on my arm so I'd have to tend to a second baby with only one arm (lol).

So this is what's going on in my head and just needed to get it out. :)

What's stopping you?

As part of our move we became members of a nearby gym that has child care. I went to my initial evaluation on Tuesday to set goals and meet with a trainer. I explained to him that I wanted to have more energy and loose weight. I honestly haven't been to a gym in three years!!

We put a goal sheet plan together and he asked if it was realistic for me to meet my goals, and then it happened. I hesitated in saying yes because I got a flash of everything that could possibly get in the way of achieving my goals. Pre mommyhood I would have said "yes" with no hesitation, but now things are so different. I then said well I have to see how things work with him, as I pointed to my little guy. The 50+ year old trainer looked puzzled and brushed that off and said well we have child care as if to say what's the big deal. But to me it is a giant deal. I know that my baby has never stayed with a stranger I know that this move has caused him a lot of anxiety about being separated from me in particular because when his poppa is gone I'm the only one that is always here for him.

So here I am trying to figure out how to make this new place and new people who will watch my little guy at the gym fun for him. I'm thinking of ways that I can help ease his anxiety and praying that he'll understand that he'll be ok and that I will be back to pick him up. Saturday he stayed in the child care but he cried the whole time and they had to page my hubby to go get him.

I've seriously considered staying at the gym during the weekday mornings to see when it's least busy so I can go to the gym on those days. Meeting with the staff and finding one person AJ loves and just going to the gym when that person works. I know it's good for him to learn to be away from me and he is getting so much better at the church nursery but there it's always the same person watching him so he's at least getting more and more used to her. The gym is a whole different ball game, it's young workers and different people all the time.

I will keep you posted on how he does, I have an appt with a trainer tomorrow morning so hopefully my little guy will be ok. Do you have any suggestions on how to help my little guy deal with seperation anxiety? I'd love to hear any suggestions.

A different kind of Christmas

Last year we spent my little guys first Christmas back home (my home) in Texas. Although we really enjoyed our time with friends and family it was hard to do the things we'd normally do at home. It was very hard to really fully enjoy ourselves as we traveled to visit with relatives, split up family time etc. We traveled back to our home in New Mexico on Christmas Day, along with everyone else with that bright idea to travel on that day. Needless to say after that we decided traveling for the holidays wasn't going to happen this year.

So that's exactly what happened, this year along with a move, a new house, and settling into our new home and new city we celebrated Christmas just the three of us. It turned out to be a pretty perfect Christmas. Not because we weren't around family (having family around would've made it that much better) but really we weren't rushed to be somewhere at a certain time, we didn't have a large meal to slave over (even though my hubby decided to make tamales) and most of all we were able to focus totally on our little guy.

We were able to enjoy staying up until midnight putting his gift (that Santa dropped off) together, wrapping it together, and best of all enjoyed watching how much he loved his gift as he unwrapped it. I often think back to my amazing Christmas/ family memories and become very sad because my little guy won't ever have that. He won't ever be surrounded by three or four generations of family celebrating a holiday. I think that's why it's so important for me and my hubby to try our best to provide the traditions we do want him to remember. Hopefully one day he'll look back on these memories and they will bring a smile to his face.

So although this was a very different type of Christmas, I wouldn't have it any other way. Here are a few things we did on our Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.

He had his own Christmas tree in his room.

We started Christmas Eve with some painting for a little 2013 keepsake. This was immediately followed by a bath.

He decorated cookies but mostly ate sprinkles by licking the icing off.

Santa brought him a potty which he sits on everyday but hasn't gone in it yet.

His main gift from Santa :). Poppa worked hard to put this together. I guess the elves ran out of time.

So as we start this New Year I hope that our little family continues to start new family traditions and that we make lots of great memories for our little guy.

Happy 2014 from our family to yours!
